Coalville Town Bowls Club Prides Itself in Being a Very Active Forward Looking Club.
The Club was formed in 1991as a result of the amalgamation of three bowls clubs, Coalville Town Bowls Club, Pegsons Bowls Club and North West Leicestershire Miners Bowls Club, existing on the current site. The bowling greens, associated surrounding land and an old wooden pavilion were purchased at that time from the National Coal Board.
In 1997 the Club sold the old pavilion and land on which it stood to the owner of an old persons' care home which was about to be built adjacent to the bowling greens. The proceeds of the sale enabled the construction of a new brick built clubhouse with ladies' & gentlemens' changing rooms & toilets, a disabled persons toilet, a bar & kitchen facilities, car parking and retention of 2 of the existing bowling greens.
Since this time the Club has thrived and offered Membership to all members of the local community.
It is the policy of the Club to encourage mixed playing membership of all ages. Members are of equal standing and mixed teams are fielded whenever possible.
Being a friendly Club new members are made very welcome and encouraged to play and are offered free coaching by our newly certified Coaches who also help existing members to improve their game.
There is a very active social side to the Club and during the winter months social events are well attended and enjoyed by all.
Being affiliated to Bowls England, Bowls Leicestershire and the Coalville & District Bowling Association, many members regularly play in local friendly and league team games in addition to taking part in District, County and National Competitions with some notable success.
There is a very active social side to the Club and during the winter months our social team organise a variety of events that are well attended by members, their families and friends and enjoyed by all. These events also act as vital fund raising activities and considerable organisational work by the Social Team and many members make such events a great success.
Team work is a by word for the Club and is the reason for its success as exampled by our recent President’s Day raising £620 for the charity Young Lives v Cancer.
We also play short mat bowls in the clubhouse during the closed season which ends just before the greens re-open with a finals event between the winners of our Monday and Friday league.
During the April to September outdoor season our social and practice play , 'roll up' evenings, are held on Mondays and Fridays generally from 6.00pm onwards on a come as you please basis. Come along and have a look at our facilities. You will be made very welcome and, if you are interested in joining us, you will be given every opportunity to learn a new healthy sporting activity and, best of all, have some fun.
